Take 5!

Compassion means being kind and thoughtful toward others.
Let me ask you, dear Book Babe, when was the last time you stopped to smell the roses?
Ahh yes, easy to say, not always easy to do. It’s hard with our busy schedules to stop and take a moment. Now add compassion to the agenda. And you’re thinking…Now add compassion to the agenda?  We actually have to stop our thoughts, actions and texting for someone else’s needs? Lending an open ear to one who needs to vent or helping someone elderly for the fifteenth time to logon to the computer isn’t always a scheduled task. But it may be that exact kind gesture that will bring you back home. Back to a place where you can again appreciating the simple things that make us tick, that make us human and feel.  Make an effort to slow down every now and again. Believe it or not it’s not always about you.  This time, it may be about the one you give the roses to. But when you’re about to send them off to cheer someone else up, take that one moment, dear Book Babe, to smell the roses yourself.  Compassion is truly felt by others when they see you feel it within yourself.

Take 4!

Chances are sometime soon you’ll attend an athletic, political, or educational event and our national anthem will be played.  When you hear it, stand proud and sing the song.  Not in your head.  Open your mouth and sing the words.  Sing them loud. Sing them clear.  It is the song of our country.  It’s what makes this song so special. So let’s connect as Americans, if only for a moment, with what is ours… Pride in our country.

Take 3!

Take time to nourish a friendship. Friendship is as much about the other person as is it is about you. Diamonds last a lifetime but friendships may not. Be sure to treat those you care about as you would like to be treated. This week, make a concerted effort to focus on those closest to you. Husbands, wives, parents and in-laws are just as or more deserving of kind thoughts than you may be giving credence. Don't take advantage of the role they play in your lives. Your actions will show them as much importance as the gift of friendship they have given to you. Think of one completely different way you might greet someone you see first thing in the morning that will brighten their day and inspire them.

Take 2!
Make it a point to tell someone you know (or an unfamiliar face) what a great job they did on a specific task you saw them complete. Being generous not only means doing something special for others without being asked, but also offering a thoughtful compliment when you see a good deed being done.

Take 1!

A character trait is a description of a person's qualities.

Today's character trait is one that Pheobe learned on her latest adventure: Responsibility.  Responsibility is a character trait which means being in charge of a specific task and completing it.
